Presente Continuous: Explicación + Ejercicios

Present Continuous

El present continuous se usa para hablar de:

  • 🔹 acciones que están pasando ahora mismo
  • 🔹 situaciones temporales
  • 🔹 cosas que ocurren en este momento

💙 Nota: En español equivale a nuestro gerundio: estoy comiendo, está estudiando…

Formas del Present Continuous

El present continuous (presente continuo) se forma con:

Sujeto + VERBO TO BE (am, is, are) + VERBO PRINCIPAL (-ing)

Ejemplos

  • I am reading a book. → Estoy leyendo un libro.
  • She is studying English. → Ella está estudiando inglés.
  • They are playing football. → Ellos están jugando al fútbol.

🔴 Forma negativa

Sujeto + do + not + verbo (don’t de forma abreviada).
Para la tercera persona del singular (he, she, it) usamos does + not (doesn’t de forma abreviada) y el verbo principal NO lleva -s.

Ejemplos

  • I am not working today. → No estoy trabajando hoy.
  • He is not sleeping. → Él no está durmiendo.
  • We are not watching TV. → No estamos viendo la tele.

Ejemplos

  • Are you studying now? → ¿Estás estudiando ahora?
  • Is she working? → ¿Está ella trabajando?
  • Are they waiting? → ¿Están esperando?

💙 Recuerda: el verbo to be va delante.

🔵 Cómo formar el -ing

  • La mayoría de los verbos solo añaden -ing al verbo principal.
    (work → working / read → reading / play → playing)
  • Verbos que terminan en -e: quitamos la -e del final y añadimos -ing.
    (make → making / write → writing / dance → dancing)
  • Verbos que terminan en consonante + vocal + consonante: doblamos la última consonante.
    (run → running / sit → sitting / swim → swimming)
