There is & There are
There is / There are se usa para decir que algo existe o que hay algo en un lugar.
En español significa HAY. Veamos algunos ejemplos:
- There is a book on the table. → Hay un libro en la mesa.
There are two chairs in the room. → Hay dos sillas en la habitación.
🟢 Forma afirmativa
SINGULAR – There is.
There is + SINGULAR (una sola cosa)
Ejemplos:
- There is a chair in the room. → Hay una silla en la habitación.
- There is a dog in the garden. → Hay un perro en el jardín.
PLURAL – There are.
There are + PLURAL (más de una cosa)
Ejemplos:
- There are two chairs in the room. → Hay dos sillas en la habitación.
- There are three books on the table. → Hay tres libros en la mesa.
🔴 Forma negativa
There is not (isn’t) + SINGULAR
There are not (aren’t) + PLURAL
There are not (aren’t) + PLURAL
Ejemplos:
- There is not a TV in the room. (There isn’t a TV in the room.) → No hay TV en la habitación.
- There are not two bathrooms. (There aren’t two bathrooms.) → No hay dos cuartos de baño.

Is there + SINGULAR…?
Are there + PLURAL…?
Are there + PLURAL…?
Ejemplos:
- Is there a bathroom? – Yes, there is. / No, there isn’t.
¿Hay cuarto de baño? – Sí que hay/ No hay. - Are there two bedrooms?- Yes, there are. / No, there aren’t.
¿Hay dos dormitorios? – Sí que hay / No hay.
